Winston-Salem branch of NAACP honors Pitt

The Winston-Salem branch of the NAACP honored the life and legacy of Ernest L. Pitt, founder and former publisher of the Winston-Salem Chronicle. 

During its annual Freedom Fund Gala banquet, Pitt was awared the Charles A. McLean CommunityService Award. Before presenting Pitt with a plaque, Rev. Alvin Carlisle, president of the local branch, applauded Pitt for being the "voice of the community."

Earlier this year, Pitt announced plans to sell The Chronicle and retire.
