Promotions at News-Topic in Lenoir

The editor of the News-Topic in Lenoir is being promoted to become the newspaper’s new publisher. Guy Lucas, 52, who has been the editor since January 2013, will add publisher to his title Jan. 1 following the retirement of publisher Terese Almquist. Almquist has been publisher since August 2009. To help Lucas run the newsroom, reporter Kara Fohner also will be promoted Jan. 1 to the new position of news editor. Because Almquist also serves as advertising director, the News-Topic has begun a search for a new advertising sales manager. Lucas began his career at the News-Topic in 1987 as a reporter. Since then he has worked as a reporter or editor in Wilmington, Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Winston-Salem, where he was state editor when he was promoted in 2001 to a corporate news position with Media General, the Richmond, Virginia, company that then owned the Winston-Salem Journal.
