NC Policy Watch is becoming NC Newsline and you’re going to like the changes that are in store


For nearly two decades, people who care about North Carolina’s most vulnerable, who relish understanding the people and politics that factor into the state’s policies, and who have strong opinions about what our state should look like in the 21st Century, have been loyal and supportive readers of NC Policy Watch.

During this period, our team of journalists has produced, edited, and published more than 50,000 news stories, commentaries, and radio interviews for a large and growing statewide – sometimes nationwide – audience, while bringing home dozens of state and national journalism awards.

And as the person who’s overseen the Policy Watch operation for the past five-plus years, I can assure you that we’re all proud as heck about what we’ve accomplished.

Proud, but not satisfied.

On March 1, Policy Watch took the next step in its development by becoming a part of the national States Newsroom network – a fast-growing journalism nonprofit led by Policy Watch founder Chris Fitzsimon, that operates capital-based newsrooms in 32 other states and a bureau in Washington, D.C.

And now, with the assistance of our new parent organization, we’re ready to take things to the next level.

On April 3, our newsroom will have a new name that better defines our scope and ambition: NC Newsline.
