Privacy StatementCOMMITMENT TO YOUR PRIVACY
This site is owned and operated by The North Carolina Press Association. Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us, and we want to make your experience online satisfying and safe. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it. Please note this policy applies only to information collected by The NCPA online and does not address information collected or used by The NCPA through other means.
INFORMATION THE NCPA GATHERS AND TRACKS
The NCPA gathers aggregated tracking information by tallying page views throughout our sites. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers' needs and to help our advertisers and sponsors better understand the demographics of our audience. We automatically track and collect the following information when you visit our Site: (i) IP address; (ii) domain server; (iii) type of computer; and (iv) type of web browser (collectively "Traffic Data"). Traffic Data is anonymous information that does not personally identify you but is helpful for marketing purposes or for improving your experience on the Site.
Access to The NCPA's main Web site is available via the Internet without the user supplying any personal information. There are portions of the website, however, that will require the user to register and provide certain personal information.
In order for you to access certain premium services via the Site, we require you to provide us with information that personally identifies you ("Personal Information"). Personal Information may include: (i) Contact Data (such as your name, mailing and e-mail addresses) and (ii) Demographic Data (such as your zip code, age and income). If you communicate with us by e-mail, post messages to any of our chat groups, bulletin boards or forums, or otherwise complete online forms, surveys or contest entries, any information provided in such communication may be collected as Personal Information. Participation in those portions and the furnishing of personal information is purely voluntary.
USE OF INFORMATION
The NCPA internally uses information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience in our websites, to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites and to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users.
Aggregated tracking information is used to determine which areas of our sites users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users.
We will not disclose any information about any individual user except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.
The NCPA operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall and password protection systems. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our customers.
