The Fayetteville Observer is seeking a staff writer for the military publication, The Paraglide. Responsibilities include research, writing, copy-editing, and providing design and layout support under the direction of the Assistant Editor and Editor/Chief of Internal Information.
Basic Qualifications Include:
Produces self-generated/assigned stories and photos.
Lay out pages, correct drafts and help with editing the newspaper.
Must be proficient in Macintosh computers and have knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office.
Proficient in AP Style writing
A good knowledge of English grammar and photography.
Ability to meet aggressive deadlines, juggling multiple priorities.
Highly productive; must be able to work with speed and accuracy under minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
Willing to cross train on other skill sets to strengthen cross-functional teams.
Demonstrates flexibility by adjusting readily to changing priorities and editorial decisions.
Exceptional work ethic: Good attitude, contributes to team effort, uses time productively.
Good communication skills written and oral a must.
Must help maintain customer relationships while representing the company on Fort Bragg.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or English is preferred but a combination of education and experience will be considered. Page layout experience and knowledge of various graphic design programs a plus. This is a day shift position, however, some flex scheduling may be required to ensure deadlines are met and publication schedule is maintained.
