SB 133: Juror Privacy This bill removes from the public jury list the address of those on the list. The names of people on the list would remain part of the public record. This bill was approved by the Senate in the 2011 session. It had been sent to the House in March 2011, but not acted on last year. The House Judiciary Committee took the relatively short bill (Version 1) approved by the Senate and combined it into a much larger bill designed to update the laws concerning jury lists. The latest version of the legislation includes the language "Public access to juror information shall be limited to the alphabetized list of the names. The addresses of prospective jurors are confidential and not subject to disclosure without an order of the court." The bill has been placed on the calendar of the House for June 25. Neither NCPA nor the NC Association of Broadcasters opposes this bill under current language. Primary sponsor: Sen. Daniel G. Clodfelter (D)-Charlotte. Co-sponsor: Sen. Ed Jones (D). |
