HB 1212: Info on minors not public records This bill started out as a local bill for Chatham County, but was amended to include the Wake County towns of Cary, Garner, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon, which had been covered in HB 1115. Also added to this bill is compromise language from SB 952 promoted by NCPA exempting names of minors receiving financial scholarships from governmental units covered by the bill. All of these bills revise Section 1. G.S. 132‑1.12, which exempts from public records laws information pertaining to youths participating in parks and recreation activities. This bill extends the exemption for all local government-run programs in Chatham County and the named Wake County towns. It also adds email addresses to the list of secret information. The amended version of this bill was passed by the House on June 12. The Senate received the bill on June 13 and assigned it to the Committee on State and Local Government. NCPA is not opposing this bill in its current form. Primary sponsor: Rep. Joe Hackney (D)-Chapel Hill |
