Judge's comment: Drive alive is a heartwarming example of a newspaper challenging its community to recognize the need for change. Instead of accepting vehicle fatalities as run-of-the-mill coverage, The News Reporter gave readers "a sense of control". This project involved not just everyone at The News Reporter, it grabbed the hearts of many throughout the community. As they candidly acknowledge, they have no scientific way to gauge success. But increased awareness and even one life saved brand this project a winner.
